Film Music Awards 2024 (for Films released in 2023)

A few noteable events on the film music award scene in 2023:

  • "Barbie" did particularly well in the Song category with 2 oscar nominations and 3 golden globe nominations.
  • The Canadian musician Robbie Robertson sadly passed in August 2023, though his score for the Martin Scorsese film "Killers of the Flower Moon" was nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and an Oscar. The Oscar-nominated Osage language song "Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)" was written by Scott George and performed by the Osage Tribal Singers.
  • The composer John Williams is the most nominated living person and also the oldest ever oscar-nominee. "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" is his 54th oscar nomination and he turned 92 on 8th February 2024.
  • In the movie "Maestro" Bradley Cooper plays the iconic composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein. Cooper reportedly spent 6 years preparing for the role and learning to conduct realistically for the movie.
  • In "She Came to Me" Peter Dinklage plays a New York opera composer called Steven Lauddem, who is suffering from a serious case of writer's block. The Bruce Springsteen song "Addicted to Romance" is named after a line in one of the operas.
  • Though not nominated since it wasn't written for the movie, the use of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 2001 song "Murder on the Dancefloor" on the "Saltburn" Soundtrack propelled the song back into the UK Singles Charts.
