Cookies, Data Protection and Privacy issues on mfiles

About Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your computer by the websites you visit. In some cases those cookies are critical to the functioning of the website. In other cases the cookies improve the functioning of the site, or provide information to the site's owners.

If you are concerned about the use of cookies on websites, please note that it is possible to control their use using settings on your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.). However turning off cookies may stop some websites from working. To find out more about cookies, including how you might identify, control or delete them we recommend you visit AllAboutCookies.org.

Cookies on mfiles:

Please note that Music Files Ltd does not use cookies directly on the mfiles website, known as "First Party Cookies". However we utilise a number of 3rd party web services which use cookies for a range of purposes unconnected with mfiles. Those services are provided by a variety of reputable companies and they can be divided into the following categories:

Web Analytics Services

We use Google Analytics to gather statistical information about our visitors, the pages they visit and related demographic information. These services require cookies to operate properly but the information they gather is anonymous and statistical in nature. See the Google Analytics Privacy FAQ for further information.

Advertising

We use both Google Adsense and Media.net (Yahoo/Bing Ad Network) to provide advertising on mfiles. These services require cookies to operate, and can identify visitors in order to optimise the effectiveness of their adverts. See the Google Advertising Privacy FAQ for further information.

Affiliate Services

We participate in a number of affiliate schemes which may use cookies to track customers when you click on links to products which we recommend (a process called referrals). We currently participate in the Affiliate schemes operated by Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, SheetMusicPlus.com and VirtualSheetMusic.com.

Social Media Websites

If you visit our pages, channels or profiles on Social Media sites, then similarly you can expect these sites to use cookies to identify their users.

Data Protection and Privacy (DPA & GDPR):

As per our Cookie Policy above, the mfiles website does not collect or process visitor data. We therefore do not as a general rule capture, hold or use any personal information about our users for Direct Marketing or Profiling. Similarly Music Files Ltd does not send out Newletters, so we do not have a subscriber list for mail or email.

As stated above we do use certain services operated by Google and other 3rd parties. If you have any questions or concerns about how your information is used by these companies, please refer to their respective data policies. For example Google sets out here how they use your information via partner websites such as mfiles. Media.net state that their ads are "GDPR compliant and privacy-friendly". They do not collect, store or use any Personal Data for ad targeting, only sending "user IP addresses to upstream providers for the purpose of fraud identification and mitigation".

If you interact with Music Files Ltd on social media by liking our pages and posts, becoming our friend, following or subscribing to our profiles and channels then we will potentially have access to your name and other details. Please refer to your privacy settings on these social media sites. However we do not extract or otherwise process or store your social media data.

If you contact Music Files Ltd in any way (e.g. by letter, email, message or telephone) whether to request or share information or to engage our professional services, then we will always treat your personal information in the strictest confidence. In such cases all your data (including name, email address and contact details) will be stored securely and we will never share those details with other companies or individuals.

The mfiles website was converted to secure "https" in 2017 and since then all transmitted website data including any data you enter (e.g. words you input into search boxes) are now encrypted, and therefore unable to be seen by anyone.

If you have any further questions about Cookies, Data Protection or Privacy on the mfiles website or by Music Files Ltd, please contact us or email support@mfiles.co.uk.
