Mizerna Cicha (pronounced "Meezerna Cheeha") is a Polish Christmas Carol. In English translations, Mizerna Cicha is known as "Poor and Quiet", "Silent and Weary", "Sad and Calm", or "Only A Manger" since the lyrics refer to the manger in which the infant Jesus was born. Its melody is well known and well loved within Poland but is not so well known in other countries. The original Polish lyrics were written by Teofil Aleksander Lenartowicz (1822-1893), and the best known version of the melody was written by the Polish choral composer and conductor Jan Karol Gall (1856-1912).
This arrangement uses oboe and piano, and consists of an 8-bar introduction (or "Intro"), 3 verses and an 8-bar coda (or "Outro"). However the oboe part can be sung or played by a variety of instruments, and we have included the following set of parts to support these different options: Main (Oboe, Flute, Violin, etc. in C), High (Flute, Piccolo, etc. in C), Bass (Bassoon, Cello, etc. - bass clef in C), Clar (Clarinet or Trumpet in B-flat), Cor Anglais, French Horn in F, Alto Sax in E-flat and Viola (alto clef) and Piano Accompaniment (with guitar chords).
