Mizerna, Cicha - arranged for piano by Jim Paterson

Mizerna Cicha (pronounced "Meezerna Cheeha") is a Polish Christmas Carol. In English translations, Mizerna Cicha is known as "Poor and Quiet", "Silent and Weary", "Sad and Calm", or "Only A Manger" since the lyrics refer to the manger in which the infant Jesus was born. Its melody is well known and well loved within Poland but is not so well known in other countries. The original Polish lyrics were written by Teofil Aleksander Lenartowicz (1822-1893), and the best known version of the melody was written by the Polish choral composer and conductor Jan Karol Gall (1856-1912).

This arrangement consists of an 8-bar introduction (or "Intro"), 3 verses and an 8-bar coda (or "Outro"), though each of these sections can be considered as optional. You can download sheet music, midi and mp3 files for the piano arrangement using the links on the left, and we have also adapted the carol to be played by solo instrument (or sung by singers) accompanied by piano or guitar chords. We have illustrated this version using Oboe and Piano though many instruments can substitute for the oboe using the following sheet music parts: Main (Oboe, Flute, Violin, etc. in C), High (Flute, Piccolo, etc. in C), Bass (Bassoon, Cello, etc. - bass clef in C), Clar (Clarinet or Trumpet in B-flat), Cor Anglais, French Horn in F, Alto Sax in E-flat and Viola (alto clef) and Piano Accompaniment (with guitar chords).
