This music is Beethoven's 6th Symphony in F major which is often called the "Pastoral", due to its programmatic storyline. Unusually for the time it has 5 movements whose descriptions by the composer show the different events depicted as follows: "Arriving in the Countryside", "By the Brook", "Peasants Merrymaking", "Thunder Storm" and "Shepherd's Song". The first movement included here is described as "Arriving in the Countryside" and is a relaxed, cheerful depiction of a peaceful countryside. It is a familiar work which has been used in commercials, television and film, most notably in the animated film "Fantasia". Almost certainly Beethoven was aware of and possibly inspired by the equally programmatic and often pastoral music of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
For musicians we have included here the Full Conductor's Score and the individual parts for the following instruments: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets (in B-flat), 2 Bassoons, 2 Horns (in F), 1st Violins, 2nd Violins, Violas, Cellos, and Double Basses.
