"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is one of the oldest and most widely recognised Nursery Rhymes, though there are different versions in different countries. The original melody is thought to be French where the rhyme is called "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman". The melody is well-known to classical composers and Mozart composed a set of variations on the melody, and the Hungarian composer Erno Donhanyi also wrote a work for piano and orchestra based on this melody called "Variations on a Nursery Tune". Because the song is about a star it is generally sung at bed-time and can also be sung as a Lullaby. The melody has generated a number of variants such as the one used for Baa Baa Black Sheep and for the "Alphabet Song" which goes "A B C D E F G, H I J K LMNOP".
