Much of Saint-Saens' music is free from the constraints of classical form. This symphony is quite unusual and yet interesting, using an organ and 2 pianos in addition to the full orchestra. These few bars are only a short excerpt from the 3rd movement of this symphony, and this theme was used in various arrangements by Nigel Westlake in the film Babe. The melody was used for a popular song called "If I Had Words" performed by Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley, and the song version is also used in "Babe". Note that this is a large orchestral score and some devices might struggle to play all the instruments in the Midi version. If this is the case, try playing the MP3 version or go to our arrangement for solo organ or piano, and in this format the music is often played as a Wedding March - here are more examples of Wedding Music. The menu at the left provides the downloads associated with this musical extract, and other orchestral extracts from Mahler's Symphonies can also be found. Note that we haven't included sheet music parts since this is not a complete movement.
