Ilan Eshkeri is an English composer, born in London and studying Music and English Literature in Leeds. He gained some early experience as an orchestrator for Michael Kamen on the film "Open Range" before quickly moving into a composing career. As a composer Eshkeri first made a name for himself when he worked with Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator) to compose the score for "Layer Cake" directed by Matthew Vaughn. Another collaboration was "Hannibal Rising" with co-composer Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers). Later Ishkeri would work again with Vaughn on "Kick-Ass" again in collaboration with other composers - this time including Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), John Murphy (28 Days Later) and Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge). As a solo composer he scored the fantasy drama "Stardust" also for Matthew Vaughn and the period drama "The Young Victoria" written by Julian Fellowes and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.
Back in 2007 Ishkeri also worked on the award-winning boxing movie "Strength and Honour" set in Ireland, and this film's awards prominence in the Film Festival circuit no doubt helped to get his name and music noticed. Certainly his career has gone from strength to strength allowing the composer to display a distinct versatility along the way. There was the spy comedy sequel "Johnny English Reborn" which allowed the composer not only to channel the music of Edward Shearmur but also a certain pastiche of the Bond spy genre set out by film composers such as John Barry and David Arnold. There has also been romantic comedies such as "I Give It a Year" and "Austenland", animations such as "Justin and the Knights of Valour" the TV sequel "The Snowman and the Snowdog" and the stop-motion "Shaun the Sheep Movie". Ishkeri's output has also included serious dramas such as "Coriolanus" starring and directed by Ralph Fiennes, and most recently Still Alice starring Julianne Moore as a linguistics professor suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's.
One of Eshkeri's most recent projects was to create music for the Computer Game "The Sims 4" and he discusses this project in this interview on youtube. Prior to this composer has gained a sizeable CV of Television projects:
