"The Seven Joys of Mary" is a traditional Christmas Carol. It probably evolved from other poetic instances of "Seven Joys" in a Christian context, with historically a number of different versions of the lyrics and different melodies. Most current versions of the lyrics tell of 7 things in the life of Jesus which give joy to his mother Mary. It has come to be associated with Christmas, possibly because the first joy as mentioned in the first verse is usually about his being born or as a baby. The melody used here for the carol is now the most common.
