This Classical Sheet Music is based on the Hymn (or Psalm) known as "Tallis' Canon" by Thomas Tallis. It is the 8th of the 9 "Tunes for Archbishop Parker's Psalter" composed in 1567. Though composed hundreds of years ago, the hymn is still regularly used today, and was recently heard on the TV series "The Midwife". Benjamin Britten used the music in his opera Noye's Fludde (Noah's Flood) for the song "The spacious firmament on high" and this version is also on the soundtrack for the film "Moonrise Kingdom".
Our arrangement is as follows. For the first verse only two parts are played to illustrate the canon devise. For the second verse all four parts are played in full - Note that the first 4 notes of the Tenor part are the same as the last 4 notes of the Soprano part, and that the Bass part also echoes parts of the theme. The third verse introduces an organ accompaniment which can also be used as a solo piece. You can download the sheet music, midi and mp3 files using the links on the left menu.
