Domenico Scarlatti: Sonata K.32 in D minor, arranged for Violin and Cello

Domenico Scarlatti portrait From all Domenico Scarlatti's 555 known sonatas, the one K.32 in D minor is one of the shortest and perhaps one of the easiest. Although originally written for keyboard, it also lends itself to arrangements and this particular arrangement is for Violin and Cello. It is marked "Aria" in the score, perhaps implying a lyrical song-like melody. It has a nice swing to it, because almost every 2nd bar starts with a little upward run of 3 notes. If the Violin player finds the trills daunting they can be ignored, or simplified. Since the music fits on a single page, we have only provided the score on the assumption that both players can read the score. The sheet music score and audio files can be found in the left-hand menu and further down the page. On mfiles another similar arrangement of this sonata for Oboe and Bassoon and the original K.32 sonata for piano, and there are also 2 other Scarlatti Sonatas for Piano, K.159 in C major and Sonata K.185 in F minor.
