Christian Petzold : Minuet in G minor, No.5 from 2nd Notebook of A. M. Bach

Christian Petzold is considered to be a "one (or two) hit wonder" by many musicians, but he was highly regarded in his day. He was a contemporary of Bach and had similar jobs such as church or court organist, providing and performing new music as required. However very little of his music has survived today, and it is thanks to the Bach family that two of his keyboard minuets are in fact well-known today. This is because these two works were included in a collection called the "Bach Notebook" and until relatively recently these were assumed to be works by Bach and given Bach catalogue numbers. From another manuscript we now know that these two minuets have come from a larger harpsichord Suite by Petzold. The sheet music, midi and mp3 files can be downloaded using the links on the left-hand menu, and also on the left are links to other works from the "Bach Notebook".

On this page we present the less famous minuet in G minor, though also on mfiles is its sibling Minuet in G major.
