This lively traditional Christmas Carol uses an old Welsh Folk Dance melody which has been in existence for centuries. When Welsh lyrics were added to the melody it became known as "Nos Galan" meaning "New Year's Eve" but sometimes called "Cold is the Man". The melody is so well-known that Mozart used it in a work for violin and piano. The English lyrics were added later, but they still refer to the Yuletide Season, New Year and Dancing, and each line ends with "Fa la la la la, la la la la" in a similar way to the original Welsh version.
