Carl Filtsch : Romance Op.3 No.1 in E minor (piano)

Carl Filtsch - from a lithograph Carl Filtsch (1830-1845) was a highly gifted young pianist and composer from Transylvania (what would now be Romania). A child prodigy, Filtsch's talent was well-recognised by contemporary composers and he became a student of Frederic Chopin. He died of TB before reaching his 15th birthday, but still left an impression on the world of music including a number of compositions such as his Op.3 called "Premières pensées musicales" (First musical thoughts). This consists of 3 pieces pieces for piano, and the first of the three is featured here - Romance "sans paroles" (without words) in E minor. The Romance seems surprisingly modern and mature for such a young composer. Below you can play the mp3 or midi files and see the sheet music before downloading.
