"The Holly and The Ivy" is an old Christmas Carol whose composer is unknown. The title and lyrics refer to those berry-bearing branches which have been used as a Christmas decoration for centuries, though holly and ivy were previously pagan fertility symbols and they are also mentioned in the Sans Day Carol.
